PROJECT OVERVIEW

Car Storage Garage

New Jersey Steel Buildings

Kirt Williams has a vision.

He sees a car storage facility bursting with vintage muscle cars from the 1960s and 1970s–a workspace for restoring all manner of classic hot rods such as Ford Mustangs, Chevy Corvettes and Dodge Chargers to their original luster.

In 2004, Williams moved one step closer to making his vision a reality with the help of Allied Steel.

Williams had been restoring classic cars from his current home garage in Jackson , New Jersey , since the year 2000. As his passion for his hobby grew, he wanted to get a little elbow room and expand his capabilities for working on cars.

In the Fall of 2002, he began researching his options for adding a building to his property. He considered building from scratch or acquiring a steel building. After doing his research, he came across Allied Steel.

“They had a building that would meet my needs perfectly,” Williams says. “I worked with Mike at Allied and I have nothing but good things to say about the whole project.”

Williams says that people he had talked to advised him that Allied Steel was a good, strong company with a quality product at a fair price. This has been his experience as well, he says.

Although he made the decision to go with Allied in 2002, Williams made the deal finally happen in May of 2004.

“I finally got everything in order in the spring, and the building arrived on time in May,” he says. “From that point on it was just a matter getting it built.”

Williams says that because he lives in a rural area, he had no problems with zoning boards or planning commissions dictating the parameters of the construction process.

“It was nice not to have to deal with all that,” he says. “I liked knowing that Mike would have been able to help me if I needed it, though.”

Williams says he built the building himself, along with a little help from a unique source: his father, Dave Williams.

“My father came in and helped me get it put up,” Williams says. “It worked out well. Between the two of us, we were able to get everything done that we needed to.”

Williams says that they insulated the building, and added epoxy to the floor as well, a requirement when dealing with the challenges of working around automotive grease and chemicals.

He also had a special luxury put in the building.

“We went ahead and put in radiant floor heating, even though it took a little more work,” Williams says. “It’s nice to have when you’re in there working in the cold weather.”

Now that Williams has the steel building he needs for the extra cars he wants to acquire, he can reflect on the experience of getting the structure built.

“I don’t know how Allied Steel could have done anything else to make the process any better,” Williams says. “I have nothing but good things to say about the company, the building quality and the price. I just have to get the hot rods now.”
